CAMPUS SUMMARY
With a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean, UCSD is perched atop the ocean cliffs in La Jolla, an area of San Diego twelve miles north of downtown. A campus of the University of California, UCSD opened in 1960 with its first class of undergraduates. The campus is co-ed, a state-supported university, has no religious affiliation and is in a 1,976 acre park-like setting wooded with eucalyptus trees.

Aside from the more than 400 student clubs and organizations, there are numerous opportunities for students to become involved in social, academic and leadership activities on campus. The surrounding community is one of the world's prime vacation spots. From the mountains to the desert to the ocean and south of the border into Mexico, the attractions are endless. Known for its famous beaches, miles of hiking trails, world-famous zoo, restaurants and theaters, San Diego offers UCSD students a wealth of opportunities to balance their academic and extracurricular life.

UNIQUE/SPECIAL PROGRAMS
UCSD operates on a quarter system and offers more than 130 majors to its undergraduates. Those that are popular include the Biological Sciences, Psychology, Economics and Political Science.

A unique feature of UCSD is its six-college system, which gives a small-campus atmosphere to a major research university. Each college has its own educational philosophy, general education requirements, housing and staff. Students choose their college when applying to the school. All majors are available, regardless of college choice.

UCSD has established an international reputation for its faculty and cutting-edge research.
