CAMPUS SUMMARY
Founded in 1852 and established in Oakland in 1871 Mills College is an independent liberal arts college for women, with graduate programs for women and men. Mills prepares students for a lifetime of independent learning. With our excellent faculty, small classes, and internship programs, Mills students are challenged daily to achieve their potential. The knowledge that graduates gain at Mills is much more than facts and statistics. Graduates leave Mills with a sense of how much they can accomplish and the skills to realize their goals. Mills is committed to creating an intellectual experience second to none, in an environment that values creativity and social justice. We expect our graduates, like our faculty, to be leaders, thinkers and doers.

UNIQUE/SPECIAL PROGRAMS
Mills offers 38 undergraduate majors and 23 graduate degree and certificate programs. While we understand the importance of a student’s major for developing focused skills and knowledge in a field, Mills is dedicated to interdisciplinary study that broadens students’ perspectives on learning. Our General Education Program is one of the most innovative in the country, ensuring that each Mills student will graduate with confidence about her intellectual abilities, a consciousness of diverse ideas and perspectives, and a passion for life-long learning.

The Mills General Education Program places the work a student does in her major in a larger context, and ensures that she explores and appreciates realms of knowledge beyond her major. The College’s mission is to graduate women who write clearly, think critically and logically in a variety of contexts, work in collaboration with others, and possess technical competence in a computerized world.
