CAMPUS SUMMARY
Established in 1913, Bakersfield College is one of the oldest two-year community colleges in the nation. The college opened its present 153 acre campus in 1956. Bakersfield College has continued to grow and to meet the educational needs of Kern County, an area noted for its rich petroleum and agricultural industries. The mission of Bakersfield College is to focus on student success by providing quality instruction and services in an environment which values and supports learning, teaching, and scholarship.
 
UNIQUE PROGRAMS
Bakerfield College offers Associate in Arts and Associate in Science degrees in agriculture, allied health, applied science and technology, art, behavioral sciences, biological sciences, business, communications, computer studies, English, family and consumer education, foreign language, health and physical education. liberal arts, mathematics, music, philosophy, physical science, public administration, social science, and theatre arts. In addition to on-campus classes, instruction is offered in the form of telecourses, on-line courses, and at five additional community sites. On-campus activities include a number of highly rated athletic teams, strong performing arts, and a wide variety of student organizations.
