CAMPUS SUMMARY
California College of the Arts. Empowering students to make the only art that matters: art that makes a difference. Founded in 1907, CCA is the largest regionally accredited, independent school of art and design in the western United States. Noted for the interdisciplinary nature of its programs, CCA offers studies in 20 undergraduate and six graduate majors in the areas of fine arts, architecture, design, and writing. The college has world-class facilities at its two campuses in Oakland and San Francisco. More than 400 highly regarded artists and scholars instruct a population of approximately 1,300 undergraduate and 300 graduate students. The average class size is 18. CCA is located in the San Francisco Bay Area, a region known for its creative and technological innovations, environmental leadership, and thriving art and design community. CCA’s Oakland campus occupies four acres in the Rockridge neighborhood, three miles from UC Berkeley. It is home to the first-year program; first-year studios; programs in the fine arts, undergraduate writing and literature, community arts, and visual studies; and residence halls. The San Francisco campus spans a city block near Potrero Hill and Mission Bay, in the design district, and houses the undergraduate architecture and design programs, painting studios, and all of the graduate programs.
