CAMPUS SUMMARY
Founded in 1926 by newspaperwoman, educator, and philanthropist, Ellen Browning Scripps, Scripps College is a private, liberal arts college for women within the Claremont Colleges Consortium, in Claremont, California. Scripps provides an intense educational and residential life experience, while offering shared services and cross-registration with four other liberal arts colleges, just steps away. The heart of academic life is the Core Curriculum in Interdisciplinary Humanities, which all students take their first three semesters. It is designed to teach students how to challenge unexamined assumptions and to think critically and creatively across disciplines. Scripps' scenic 30-acre campus, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, is located at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains, 35 miles east of Los Angeles. Scripps cherishes its campus of uncommon beauty, a tribute to the founder's vision that the College's architecture and landscape should reflect and influence taste and judgement.

UNIQUE PROGRAMS
Scripps College has traditionally been strong in the humanities and fine arts. In the last several years, however, Scripps, in cooperation with two additional Claremont Colleges, has also developed a major science and pre-medical program boasting a 100% acceptance rate into medical school. A broad range of social science options are also available. At Scripps, students also have the option of cross-registering in over 2,000 additional courses with the other Claremont Colleges. Students benefit from the personal attention and small class size of a small, women's college, while taking advantage of the resources of a larger, co-educational university. It is truly the best of both worlds!
