High School Planning - 12th Grade

  • Take advanced math and college prep English.

  • Review your class schedule with your counselor to ensure that you are meeting all of your college preparatory requirements.

  • Update your High School Planner on this website with your completed 11th grade classes and your current 12th grade classes.

  • Early September: link opens new windowRegister online for the SAT or link opens new windowfor the ACT. Your high school counselor can also provide registration forms and information about fee waivers.

  • October: Begin the CSU application filing process.

  • Continue to visit a short list of campuses you are most interested in and meet with admission and outreach officers.

  • Continue to attend College and University Night programs, and meet with university outreach representatives when they visit your high school.

  • Check frequently with high school counselors or career center directors for information about scholarships awarded by schools, local companies, and community groups. Search the Internet and public libraries for other scholarship information.

  • October 1 - November 30: Apply to a CSU campus during this initial admission application filing period.

  • January: Complete the FAFSA, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. This site provides financial aid and eligibility information as well as an aid calculator that can calculate an estimated financial aid package.

  • March and April: Determine if you need to take the English Placement Test (EPT) or Entry Level Math (ELM) exam at a CSU campus. Unless your test scores or approved college courses exempt you, a satisfactory result on these tests is required before you can take college level courses in English or math at the CSU.

  • March 2nd is the deadline for Cal Grants, so make sure you apply early.

  • May: Take AP exams for any Advanced Placement subjects you have completed.

  • Summer: Take part in summer orientation programs for incoming college freshmen. Obtain academic advising.
