(living off-campus):

$17,121 | ||||

(B) Grant assistance total: (from a variety of sources: federal, state, and college) José should qualify for a CCC Board of Governors Fee Waiver and a small Pell Grant. |
$1,179 | ||||
|
(A-B) Net Cost to Family: The Net Cost is the amount that José's family must pay after need-based grants are taken into account. |
=$15,942 | ||||

Managing the Net Cost Parents and students work together to cover the Net Cost using tools provided by the college, including parent and student educational loans and part-time work. The Net Cost is not due all at once. Many costs, such as living expenses, are incurred over time. What follows is a sample of how José's family might cover his net cost. |

José's Parents Combination of current earnings, savings or a parent loan: CCC would suggest that José's parents contribute $6,111 for the year. A larger parental contribution will decrease the amount José would need to earn on his own. |
$4,550 |

José Student part-time work during academic year: Student educational loans: Savings from summer jobs: *See below for ways that José can cover the remaining $6,892 of the cost of attendance. José will also be asked to contribute $3,000 or more through working part-time during the academic year; he may also take out student loans. If possible, José should try to find an on-campus job. His parents may be able to help José with more of his expenses; however, José can reduce the amount he needs to work and/or borrow if he receives scholarship aid and minimizes his living expenses. José may qualify for a Cal Grant A which he could use to pay tuition and fees if he transfers to a four year college. (Note: Many, but not all, community colleges participate in the federal loan programs). |
