Work

If you plan to attend school full-time, you should work no more than 15 - 20 hours per week. If you attend school less than full-time, you might consider working more. Remember, however, that the faster you earn your degree, the sooner you'll be earning the higher wages associated with having a college degree. See "Is college worth the price?" for more information.

Worried About Working?

Studies have shown that a manageable amount of work is associated with success in college and with greater involvement in college life, especially for students with jobs on campus.

Many employers, especially those you contact through a campus employment or work-study coordinator, will be willing to work around your school schedule.

In addition, having a job in college will give you something additional for your resume after you graduate.

How Can I Find a Job?

The college or university you attend can help you find a job. Most have an employment office with on-campus job listings as well as job listings for companies nearby.
