Implementing Student Financial Aid Policies Using CaliforniaColleges.edu

CaliforniaColleges.edu and State Financial Aid Policies

CaliforniaColleges.edu provides districts with the tools they need to comply with California student success policies aimed at improving student financial aid literacy and application completion rates:

  • California Education Code 51225.8: Established by AB 2015 in 2018, which requires school districts to ensure that each student receives information about how to complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act Application prior to entering 12th grade.
  • California Education Code 51225.7: Established by AB 469 in 2021, which requires all school districts to ensure that graduating seniors have submitted the FAFSA or California Dream Act Application.

Whether you’re in a Partner District or new to using CaliforniaColleges.edu, we encourage you to utilize the checklist below to jumpstart your student financial aid policy implementation efforts.

Financial Aid Lessons

The financial aid lessons on CaliforniaColleges.edu help schools fulfill AB 2015 requirements and prepare students to apply for financial aid in 12th grade.

There are two 11th grade financial aid lessons regarding “Understanding Financial Aid.” Upon completion of both lessons, students will have learned the financial aid content that fulfills the AB 2015 requirements.

Both 11th and 12th graders will have access to these lessons, which means that 12th graders can go back and review the lessons to cement their understanding of financial aid before starting the application process.

Financial Aid Application Progress Report

CaliforniaColleges.edu helps school districts meet AB 469 requirements by allowing educators to track whether a student has launched, completed, and submitted a FAFSA or California Dream Act Application.

Educators can run student progress reports that detail which students have not yet submitted their FAFSA or California Dream Act Application and quickly target those who need more support.
